My research

I am a graduate student in computer science and communication studies at the University of Northern Iowa. I am interested in the application of computer science to research in communication and other fields.

Computer Science
I am defending my master’s thesis in computer science in January 2008. My academic advisor is Dr. Eugene Wallingford. My thesis is on specification and code generation of the data layer for data-intensive web applications.

Over the past several years, my research interests included automatic code generation, content management, web-based search, information extraction and machine learning. Today I am primarily interested in the application of computer science to research in other fields. However, I'd still like to explore natural language processing and human-computer interaction.

Here's my computer science web page.

Communication Studies, PR, Journalism
I am defending my master’s thesis in communication studies in December 2007. My academic advisor is Dr. Dean Kruckeberg. My thesis is on the significance of the general public in a public relations context.

My interests include critical examination of public relations as a field, as well as application of computer science to research in mass communication.

Here's my communication studies web page.

Psychology
I am currently working on a project involving an application of computer science to eyewitness identification. I will try to add a project page by the end of December 2007.

Web Development
I have built web sites since 1999, first - as a web designer, then - a programmer. The difference is simple: as a web designer, I’d quickly throw together a design, after which I’d spend night after night trying to figure out some trivial piece of code which rotates images, oh, so neatly. As a programmer, I’d write code which would generate most of the web site automatically – so that I could focus on the really time-consuming tasks, like how to design the damn thing..

Here is a list of my 50+ web projects, as of December 3, 2007.
